State hires financial consultant for TZ Bridge project

State officials have kept mum this summer on the future plans for the Tappan Zee Bridge, but they have hired Merrill Lynch, a leading financial advisory company, to try to figure out how to pay for the multi-billion dollar project.

NJ Transit plans to buy more multilevel rail cars

Been a bit busy today, but NJ Transit said today it will buy 50 more multilevel cars for $76 million.

The cars, which are already used on several lines, will boost capacity and literally give riders more legroom.

Part of South Mountain Road in New City to close for construction

A culvert replacement project will close South Mountain Road in New City from Hemlock Trail and Tioga Court starting tomorrow.

A detour will be put in place, and barricades will be installed across the two-lane road.

Thruway offers more traffic tools on its Web site

Drivers who use the Thruway now can receive up-to-the-minute traffic conditions on the state Thruway Authority’s Web site.

Regional advisory messages, similar to those broadcast on the authority’s Highway Advisory Radio stations, have been added to the online map. The messages are available in both text and audio format.

Another bus company raising fares due to high fuel costs

Kaser Bus Service, which provides weekday commuter bus service between Kaser, a predominately Hasidic village in Ramapo, and Sullivan County, plans to raise it fares on Aug. 1 to keep up with rising gas prices.

TOR changes bus route due to Farley bridge restriction

Transport of Rockland has altered one of its bus routes in Stony Point while a major Route 9W bridge is closed to heavy vehicles.

Vehicles weighing more than 20,000 pounds are banned from the the James A. Farley Memorial Bridge while it undergoes an in-depth inspection following the discovery of corrosion on the span.

Stony Point bridge closed most of this weekend

The James A. Farley Memorial Bridge on Route 9W in Stony Point will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for inspections and repairs, the state Department of Transportation confirmed today.

Power cable damage suspends some PATH train service
