Schumer says 5 airlines agree: No carry-on bag fees

Sen. Charles Schumer said this morning that five airlines have agreed not to charge passengers fees for carry-on bags the way Spirit Air is about to. He also says he’ll meet with the CEO of Spirit tomorrow to try to get that airline to change its mind.

The airlines that Schumer said have assured him they won’t add such a fee are American, Delta, JetBlue, United and US Air.

He said this all while working a crowd of passengers awaiting their baggage at Westchester County Airport, where flights had just arrived from Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Atlanta.

He’s also continuing to support legislation that would ban the fees. He hopes to see it passed within a month.

Read more about this in The Journal News tomorrow.
