Cheap gas in Rockland? It’s true!

Rockland drivers haven’t paid under $2 for a gallon of gas for some time now — unless they fill up in New Jersey. But they’ll pay $1.99 a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline for a few hours on Saturday at the Shell station on the corner of South Main Street and Elinor Place in New City. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being underwritten by Palisades Federal Credit Union. The credit union said the cheap gas is its way of saying thank you to its customers, but anybody can buy the gas. Since a large turnout is expected, drivers are asked to line-up on Elinor Place located to the left of the gas station. People will only be allowed to fill up their cars and cannot bring spare gas tanks.
