UPDATED: NJT’s Pascack Valley line resuming service after track fatality

November
18

UPDATED AT 11:30 AM

Service on the Pascack Valley Line is resuming after a man was struck and killed by a train this morning in Hackensack, N.J., a New Jersey Transit spokesman said.

Riders should expect 30 to 60 minutes residual delays.

Service had been temporarily suspended.

It is not clear at this time what the man was doing on the tracks, spokesman Dan Stessel said.

“We’re less than an hour into this so they’re still investigating,” Stessel said shortly after 10 a.m.

The incident occurred at 9:21 a.m. on Anderson Street as the outbound train (No. 1605) was getting ready to arrive at the North Hackensack station. Twelve passengers were aboard the train; no one was injured.

The 9:32 am train from Spring Valley (No. 1620) and train 1607, which left Hoboken after the 1605, also have been affected. Buses were sent into shuttle riders between the North Hackensack and Essex stations, where trains were waiting for trains.

The feeds provide information directly from My Transit, NJ Transit’s personalized system that sends alerts directly to a customer’s cell phone, pager or email whenever there is a delay affecting their transit mode.

Advisories are posted for delays in service of 15 minutes or more, cancellations, suspensions and closures affecting a specific train, bus route, light rail line or boarding location. The information is updated weekdays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Read more of this entry »
