Permut talks with Metro-North staff

July
16

Howard Permut, the new president of Metro-North Railroad, said his first day on the job went pretty smoothly. No surprises, nothing out of the ordinary.

Of course, the Ossining resident has been an administrator with the railroad since it was formed 25 years ago.

“I have a pretty good sense of what goes on,” he told me with perhaps a bit of understatement.

He spent the day meeting with groups of employees and plans go continue doing so.

“Over the next few months, I will be going out to meet with all the employees in their work sites,” he said.

Permut took over for Peter Cannito, who retired after 9 years at the Metro-North helm.
