JetBlue Airways will consider expanding its service at Stewart International Airport, U.S. Senator Charles Schumer said in a release today.
Following news that AirTran Airways would be ending service at the Orange County airport on Sept. 3 due to rising jet fuel prices, Schumer, D-NY, called JetBlue CEO Dave Barger. JetBlue is committed to staying at Stewart Airport and will begin looking into how to fill the gaps left behind by AirTran’s departure, Schumer said.
“JetBlue and Stewart International Airport have been a perfect fit from the get-go. I am thrilled that JetBlue has reaffirmed its commitment to Stewart and agreed to consider expanding its low-cost air service so that we can start filling the gaps created by departing airlines,” Schumer said. “JetBlue’s continued commitment to Stewart Airport is critical to providing reliable and affordable options to Hudson Valley travelers.”
AirTran had flights to Atlanta, Georgia, as well as Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale and Tampa.
