You may have seen Khurram’s article on the areas in our region, New York City and Long Island that experts see as prime for future development. (If not, find it here.)
Well, this is probably a good place to note that for the past year, Westchester County Andrew Spano served as in the rotating position of co-chair of the committee that put together the study, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Council.
New York state Transportation Commissioner Astrid Glynn holds the permanent co-chair of NYMTC. The second co-chair position rotates.
Here’s a photo NYMTC took marking the end of Spano’s term, which terminated with the meeting yesterday. That’s Spano in the middle, NYMTC Executive Director Joel Ettinger on the left and Glynn on the right.

Spano’s holding a plaque the council gave him to recognize his service.
During the meeting, at New York University’s Kimmel Center, Janette Sadik-Khan, New York City’s transportation commissioner called Spano “a breath of fresh air†on the council.
NYMTC is made up of the executives of five counties — Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Nassau and Suffolk — as well as transportation and planning officials of New York City, along with state and federal transportation and environmental officials.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy will now serve as co-chair for a year.
